Music is part of the Curriculum for every student grades Pre-K through Grade 6. Our mission is to create, perform, respond to music, and promote life-long appreciation of music. Our classes are based on both the National Standards and the New York Standards of Music Education. Each child will explore the five content areas of melody, rhythm, reading and writing, part work and form. A main goal will be to develop a strong singing voice. The music curriculum will work together with grade level language arts and history to bring a well round experience to each child. Each grade will focus on building a repertoire of Catholic hymns which will be sung at first Friday Mass. Knowledge of these songs will promote the liturgical experience and develop a future congregation of singers.
At Resurrection School we believe that Instrumental music is an investment in a child’s future. Learning to play a musical instrument and performing in the school instrumental music program provides students with tangible evidence that hard work and dedication pay off.
Resurrection offers a half-year after-school “Strings Program” for our students in Grades 2 to 8. There are weekly small group lessons and monthly entire group lessons that culminate in the annual Resurrection Spring Concert.
A huge thank you to Mr. Viserta for putting together a magical Christmas concert each year with our students.
Resurrection offers a children's choir program committed to fostering excellent musicianship, knowledgeable participation in the liturgy, and an active prayer life. We are fortunate to have a gifted Director of Music, Mr. Joseph W. Viserta, who works with the children, including training in music theory, ear training, sight-singing, and fundamentals of the Catholic Liturgy. The children's choir sings at the 8:45 AM family Mass on Sunday and other events during the year. The Children's Choir is open to all children of the parish grades 2-8.
