Winter 2025 After School Clubs

Tuesday: Mad Science: Little Scientists II – Grades PreK4 & K Prep (6 sessions)
Mad Science Preschool programs are engaging, hands-on learning experiences for children. Eachworkshop is an interactive, age-appropriate exploration of a specific science topic. Some of the topicswe'll explore this session are: Magnetic Attraction, Animal Friends, Lights On, Weather Wonders, MadMixtures and more!
Dates: 1/7, 1/14, 1/21, 1/28, 2/4, 2/11
Time: 2:30-3:30pm

Tuesday: NSCF Chess - Grades K-2 (8 sessions)
Learn piece names, values and movements, the rules of chess and how to record their games. Once students have mastered these concepts, they learn how to select good moves, avoid common mistakes and unforced errors. They look at the role of pawns and examine different pawn structures. The course continues with introducing key tactics (pins, forks battering rams, and discovered attacks).

Wednesday: NSCF Chess - Grades 3-5 (8 sessions)
Students who have already mastered the basics proceed to Level 2 classes. In this series, students will focus on three of the four criteria for evaluating positions: material, mobility and, especially, king safety. They further learn how to create and sustain a direct attack on the opponent’s king. Students will also study in detail one of the
classic attacking games of all time.

Wednesday: Mad Science: Secret Agent Lab - Grades K-2 (6 sessions)
Step into the shoes of a detective and uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis. You will probe the science of tracking as you stamp out scenarios and uncover codes in this session. Some of the weekly topics in this session include: Crime Lab, Cracking the Case, The Science of Security, Agent Undercover, Sleuths on the Scene, Funky Forensics, Spy Academy, Junior Detectives, Discover Detection and Whodunit?

Thursday: Crayola: Artist's Passport - Grades K-2 (6 sessions)
Embark on an around-the-world cultural adventure - explore far-off places and learn about the people who live there, from the Americas to Polynesia, from the cosmopolitan to the countryside. Experiment with Crayola products, while trying art techniques developed by local artists and artisans. Make different masterpieces each week such as drums, masks, canvases, prints, buses, and more! Bring the unique creations home and build a globally inspired art gallery.
