Monday: Play-to-Learn with Learn'ique (PreK4 - K)
Come and play with us! Join us for 6-weeks of theme-based learning that will engage your child in meaningful opportunities for creative play, exploration, discovery, and learning! Activities will include art, cooking, performance-based play, and interactive sensory experiences. A healthy nut and seed free snack will be provided each afternoon and will often coincide with our weekly theme. This special edition class offering is a great way to engage your child in the ultimate after-school playdate!!
Monday: Drone 4 Kidz (Grades 3-8)
This workshop is an exciting and educational program designed to introduce students to the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) through hands-on drone exploration. This engaging workshop offers students the opportunity to discover the science behind drones, learn the basics of drone operation and engage in fun and educational activities that promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Tuesday: NSCF Chess (Grades K-2)
Our beginners will start by learning piece names, values and movements, the rules of chess and how to record their games. Once students have mastered these beginning concepts, they learn how to select good moves, avoid common mistakes and unforced errors. They look at the role of pawns and examine different pawn structures. The course continues with introducing key tactics (pins, forks battering rams, and discovered attacks).
Tuesday: NSCF Chess (Grades 3-5)
Students who have already mastered the basics proceed to Level 2 classes. In this series, students will focus on three of the four criteria for evaluating positions: material, mobility and, especially, king safety. They further learn how to create and sustain a direct attack on the opponent’s king. Students will also study in detail one of the classic attacking games of all time.
Tuesday: Scribble Art: Posters & Zines (Grade 3-8)
In this class, artists dive into graphic design 101 by creating their own zines (DIY magazines) and posters. They'll use printmaking, collage, drawing, and painting methods to make some truly amazing, finished products.
Tuesday: Sew Happy (Grades 1-2)
Life Skills - many people are unable to fix a simple hole, sew on a button, or hem their own pants. Sew Happy teaches fundamental skills that will stay with students forever.
Self Esteem - some kids may not excel at academic studies but may thrive at our sewing classes — giving them a sense of self confidence and satisfaction.
Focus - sewing requires patience, mindfulness, and focus on the task at hand.
Creativity - we encourage kids to make choices and try new things at our classes, giving them a new creative outlet and an alternative to screens and technology.
FUN! Sew Happy students have a great time creating and visiting while their hands are busy sewing.
Wednesday: Kids Cooking Championship (Grades 1-3)
Join us for an after-school cook-off competition! Over the course of 6-weeks, the children will be challenged to prepare a variety of theme-based recipes. Each class will provide a team-inspired approach to baking and will engage the children in a fun and interactive cooking competition! At the end of each class our "chef panel" will provide feedback on presentation, taste, and creativity applied. We hope that you will join us in the kitchen for this fun and unique twist on this popular Food Network show!
Wednesday: Lego Robotics (Grades K-2)
This is a hands-on class where students build machines, buildings, vehicles and other structures out of Lego Bricks, using one-of-a-kind model plans designed by Bricks4 Kidz. Each class begins with a teacher-led discussion related to the model of the day. Students build a new project each week. While exploring principles of engineering, architecture, physics, and more, students will develop problem solving and critical thinking skills.
Thursday: Rye YMCA-Multi Sports (Grades PreK4-1)
Enjoy a different sport/ game each week. Focus on agility, coordination, sportsmanship, and teamwork games will include Soccer, field hockey, flag football, blacktop games, etc. Classes taught by Rye YMCA coaches certified in CPR, RTE, and First Aid.
Thursday: Grit Ninja (Grades K-2)
The Grit Ninja has packed up equipment and is ready to turn Resurrection Field into a unique ninja warrior obstacle course! During each action-packed class, aspiring ninjas will climb, swing, jump and run on our ever-changing equipment (which includes a rock wall traverse, monkey bars, grip gauntlet, cliffhanger, balance courses, warped walls, and so much more)! The program is designed by The Grit Ninja’s professional coaches – many of whom have competed on NBC’s American Ninja Warrior.
